Our Story

Mary Wegman, RN, BSN, CCM

CEO

Care Around the Block grew out of Choices in Senior Care which was founded in 2010 by Mary Wegman. Growing up, Mary shared a bedroom with her grandmother who was living with Dementia. As her primary caregiver, Mary discovered a strong passion to care for the aging population, which continues to this day. Mary earned her Certified Nursing Assistant license and worked her way through college, receiving a BS in nursing. After working as a registered nurse for over 30 years, Mary saw a need in the community for professional care management. Originally a Care Management company only, Mary founded Choices in Senior Care in 2010.

In 2014, after increased difficulty finding her clients quality caregivers through other companies, Mary began offering caregiving services as well, eventually becoming Care Around the Block (CAB). Today, Mary is more passionate than ever when it comes to serving the aging population, striving to make CAB a holistic approach to aging. Mary understands that everyone's needs are different, and she continues to innovate, allowing her clients the highest level of care and the ultimate level of independence through every season of life.

Mary carefully chooses team members with her same passion for the aging population.

Tammy Miles

Public Relations Specalist

After a very successful career in the pharmaceutical arena as a regional manager, Kimberly wanted to dedicate her time educating seniors on stroke prevention and other health related topics. She soon realized that many of the health issues were as a result of not being able to afford the expensive prescription medications that were prescribed to many of her patients. She then became a patient advocate and found ways to obtain these medications by utilizing cost saving strategies, assistance programs and grant monies.

She has a heart and passion for helping those achieve a healthier lifestyle. She realized that if they couldn't afford their medications, they also needed help with food, utilities and other daily living needs. She quickly familiarized herself with all social service agencies in every county to be able to assist with these needs. Kimberly is beyond excited to be able to continue helping families make the right choices for their loved ones by being the Public Relations Specialist for Care Around the Block and hosting events for CAB Club Community.

Kimberly Girbert

Care Manager

When I became a nurse 13 years ago, I did not realize the wonderful opportunities and blessings that nursing would bring me.  I worked ten years in the hospital setting before transitioning to the field of care management. I have now been working in care management for three years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed this field.  I love helping clients and their families with navigating the healthcare system, and being their advocate.

Outside of work, you will find me spending time with my husband and our two girls who keep us very busy with their activities.

Anna Lynch, RN

Born and raised in the west then moved to Knoxville in 2000.

Married with three grown children and six grands!

Received Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Texas Woman's University, graduating cum laude in 1985.

Previous practice has been primarily operating room nursing, but started with Choices in Senior Care in 2012 as she cared for her own dad on his dementia journey. She serves as an Aging Life Care Professional for Choices in Senior Care/Care Around the Block. Because of her love for the operating room, she still works occasionally at a pediatric surgery center. Balancing geriatrics with paediatrics and personal life, she feels she really has the best of all worlds!

Mo Willis

Engagement Program Coordinator

I am currently enjoying the “empty nest” with my husband of over 30 years. After homeschooling my 4 boys for nearly 20 years I returned to work as a Care Manager with Care Around the Block. With a background in Speech-Language Pathology I was tasked with developing a program of engagement and cognitive stimulation, initially for adults living with dementia and now for all our clients. My love for the senior population and my own family history of dementia has been the driving force behind my work to develop ways we can come along side families, care partners and our care managers to seek ways to improve our clients’ engagement and thereby improve their quality of life.

When I am not working or caring for my sister living with dementia, I enjoy volunteering at an inner-city elementary school and an after school program and am active with our church’s compassion ministry.

Melanie Cahill, MS

Pamela's passion became education and she transitioned from clinical nursing to Care Management. Her strong clinical background allows her to educate other on skills needed to care for our senior population. During her 30 year career, she also served as a Certified Nursing Assistant adjunct professor. Most recently, Pamela has received her CPR instructor certification through the American Heart Association.

Pamela enjoys traveling and collecting coffee mugs from around the world. She has two sons and "the love of her life," her grandson, Emerson. Pamela also enjoys journaling  in her spare time and is hoping to serve on a mission trip in the near future. She has a huge heart for caring for others.

Rachael Cox

Lead Caregiver

Morgan has always known that she would only be happy devoting her time to helping others. Growing up she was around a lot of aging family members, so she was knowledgeable about, and comfortable around, a lot of what she does now.

She visited loved ones in the nursing home and was present when other family members helped take care of them at home. Morgan soon realized she enjoyed talking to seniors and had a knack for making them smile. She loves having the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life after they have spent a lifetime making their own difference in the world. Working for Care Around the Block since 2016 has been a blessing for her, as it gives her that chance every day.
