Our philosophy at Care Around the Block is that it's not enough to simply cope with mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Our goal is to help our clients EMBRACE life and find purpose and meaning!

EMBRACE is designed to improve overall well-being and make our clients' lives easier.

For those early in the disease progression, we offer activities and ideas to help strengthen cognitive resilience and slow disease progression. If your loved one is living with advanced dementia, we target activities to engage through the senses and provide connections to increase quality of life.

EMBRACE is unique to CAB as it was designed in-house to address needs noted by our Care Managers. An EMBRACE cognitive assessment is completed by our EMBRACE Manager following the Care Management assessment.

Clients enrolled in the EMBRACE program engage in individualized activity sessions with their Certified EMBRACE Care Partner, with oversight from our EMBRACE Manager. Our EMBRACE Care Partners complete a rigorous 120-hour dementia care certification training to work with our EMBRACE clients.

Meet Our EMBRACE Team

After homeschooling her four sons for nearly 20 years, Melanie returned to work as a Care Manager. With a background in Speech-Language Pathology, she was tasked with developing a program of engagement and cognitive stimulation for adults living with dementia. Melanie’s love for the aging population, paired with her own family history of dementia, has been the drive behind her work. She has been developing ways to reach out to families, our Care Managers, and caregivers that improve our clients’ engagement and thus improve their quality of life!

Melanie is currently enjoying an “empty nest” with her husband of over 30 years. Outside of work and caring for her sister living with dementia, she enjoys volunteering at an inner-city elementary school and an after-school program. She is also active with her church’s compassion ministry.
